De Rosario to stay cool in front of former fans
Daniel Girard
Dwayne De Rosario is promising restraint.
If he scores for Toronto FC on his return to Houston tonight, De Rosario will do his best to curtail the celebration out of respect for the fans and players who treated him so well for three seasons.
"I'm going to try and limit it to one shake and a bake," said the Scarborough native who came home to play after a December trade from Houston, where he won two Major League Soccer championships.

De Rosario eager for Texas reunion
Paul Attfield
Who says you can’t go home again? Toronto FC midfielder Dwayne De Rosario is about to do it for the second time in six months.
Having already come back to Canada to sign with TFC in the off-season, the Scarborough, Ont., native will tonight make his long-awaited return to Houston, his home for the past three seasons.

De Rosario back with Toronto FC to face Dynamo
Midfielder fond of Houston, excited about role in Toronto

Ever the crowd pleaser, Dwayne De Rosario had a long list of things he missed about Houston ¯ and he was going to name them all, as if trying to make sure to include everyone.
The fans, of course. His longtime teammates, understandably. Robertson Stadium, clearly. The heat… Wait, what?

DeRo returns to old stomping ground
De Rosario's first match against his old team
By Mark Polishuk
TORONTO -- Though Dwayne De Rosario has quickly established himself as a cornerstone player for Toronto FC, the sight of the star midfielder lining up against the Houston Dynamo might still be a strange one for MLS fans. Saturday's match at Robertson Stadium will be De Rosario's first game against his old club since the trade that brought him to Toronto last December.

TFC paves way for date against Real Madrid
Daniel Girard
Toronto FC yesterday announced a date change for its home game against the New York Red Bulls, clearing the way for an Aug. 7 match against European soccer titan Real Madrid.
The Red Bulls game will be played at BMO Field on June 13 at 8 p.m. instead of Aug. 9 as originally scheduled, which is the day the Spanish side is to play D.C. United in Washington.

Real entertainment
Ryan Johnston
In October of last year I got the opportunity to watch Real Madrid play its second-biggest rival from Barcelona -- RCD Espanyol -- at the The Bernabéu in Madrid. The match finished 2-2 with local Galactico Raúl González Blanco scoring a pair of first-half goals. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cotkCzv4vH4)
I saw the match on the third day of a three-week backpacking tour of Spain and in Seville, Cordoba, Ronda and Malaga I reiterated to anyone interested that being one of 65,000 Madridista on that evening was an unforgettable experience. (The idea of supply and demand dictated what I paid for the tickets, with the emphasis on demand.)

The whirlwind has begun. And nothing has even been announced.
Some digging by soccer writer Paul Attfield connected the dots between DC United announcing an Aug. 9 friendly with Spanish giant Real Madrid, to a "tweet" from Toronto FC's director of business operations Paul Beirne, notifying its fans of a date change for a future game.

TFC confirmed yesterday that its Aug. 9 Major League Soccer home game against the New York Red Bulls has been changed to Saturday, June 13 because of a "potential conflict at BMO Field."

Not me. That's how he should have been writing when he decided to throw Jack under a bus & write an over sensationalized piece of crap after Columbus.
To hell with him.

With a major title on the line next week, TFC interim head coach Chris Cummins said that any changes he makes to his lineup against the Dynamo would be made with an eye to the Vancouver game, rather than fitness concerns. In fact, the coach said that his team is fully fit and ready for the potentially hot Texas temperatures.

"I might rest a couple of players in Houston to be ready for the game on Tuesday. It's an important game. It would be the first bit of silverware for the club and it would give the fans something to talk about," Cummins said.

It's nice to see the team taking the VC so seriously. Not like last year.

However, he is consciously putting our CL spot ahead this game. It's possible that we might need to lose this game in order to be certain of beating Vancouver.

Is that the wrong thing? Often team shave to decide between international and national league play.

Of course, you want to win every game, but it's not wrong to put more emphasis on the Vancouver game.

Winning the Canadian Championship will have a big effect on the team. I'm not sure how much losing it last year affected them because, as you say, they didn't seem to take it very seriously, but this is a different team and I like to think that it means something to them. Maybe winning this will help avoid the summer-slump this year.

I don't think it's a bad choice. The silverware and the CL competition will mean alot to the club. He's right that it is an important game. And if we can't rest a couple guys and still field a competitive team against any MLS opposition, we are in for a difficult summer of international absences. Our bench guys need a couple starts in order to get ready.
