Baby steps in recovery of TFC's top prospect
Scarborough's White finally gets to kick ball a bit after knee surgery
Daniel Girard
In the daily life of a professional soccer player, this is about as routine as it gets: a warm-up in which you pass the ball to a teammate and then make a short sprint after it.
But for Scarborough's O'Brian White, that simple drill, performed on a blustery day this week in a stadium empty save for a few reporters on the sidelines and some seagulls circling overhead,
marked the most important step yet on his long journey back from a devastating knee injury to the lineup of Toronto FC.

De Ro and Serioux face former team
Duo prepare to head back to Houston with Reds

Toronto FC duo Dwayne De Rosario and Adrian Serioux will be heading into familiar surroundings when the Reds face Houston Dynamo at Robertson Stadium on Saturday (kick off 8:30 p.m., live on Rogers Sportsnet).
De Rosario made 78 MLS appearances in three years with the Dynamo before moving to Toronto last winter.
He won the MLS Cup with Houston in 2006 and repeated that triumph a year later when he almost single-handedly carried them to a second straight title by assisting on Joseph Ngwenya's game-tying goal against New England and fifteen minutes later netted the game-winning goal.

Whitecaps end Impact's title hopes
THE CANADIAN PRESS
BURNABY, B.C. -- The Vancouver Whitecaps used a second-half goal from Ethan Gage to defeat the Montreal Impact 1-0 Wednesday night and set up a showdown with Toronto FC next week in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship.
The Whitecaps and Toronto both have six points in the three-team, six-game tournament. The loss ended any hope Montreal had of defending its Canadian title.

Whitecaps send Impact packing
Matthew Sekeres
One year ago, the Montreal Impact rode a win in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship series to the CONCACAF Champions League, where the team won a quarter-final leg before 55,000-plus at the Olympic Stadium.
This year, there will be no repeat.
The Impact were eliminated from the Canadian Championship on Wednesday, falling 1-0 to the league rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC before 5,134 at Swangard Stadium.
Both clubs play in the Unites Soccer Leagues First Division.

You know, I'm real tired of people using last year's CCL as a supposedly ironclad proof that USL is actually better than MLS (despite what all "us fools" believe). You can't generalize from such a small sample, people! It's a logical fallacy!

Granted, the author isn't explicitly saying the same thing as my little rant, but he's not too far.

One thing about a "Cindarella run" like l'Impact had last year...

eventually Cindarella's coach turned back into a pumpkin. Eventually the l'Impact turned back into the garbage side we suspected they were all the time.

as much as I'd like to bash Montreal, they did win the voyagers cup 7 years in a row or some such, and last year they had an amazing run of it, due to some decent play and due to some poor decision making by opposing clubs.

This years bad luck and poor play has more to do with injury and confidence issues, then anything else. I really think the Santos game, really did a number on them, it's going to take them a year to recover, from such a bonehead second half

I'm really looking forward to see O'Brain White debut when he's match fit even if that isn't till August September, if he achieves half of what he's was supposed to be capable of before the injury, I think well see Barrett getting some reserve time

but against what competition?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voyageurs_Cup

It looks like it was always montreal on top, then the Lynx and Vancouver fighting over 2nd and 3rd, and then a rare other team coming in for a few years. Plus Calgary played two different teams in two consecutive years. First they were the 'Storm' and then they were 'Mustangs' the next year. Clearly a sign of a team in transition.

anyway, let's just hope that everyone on TFC knows how important this win is.

yup... this is the problem making a big deal about the USL.
Sure, once in a while a team makes a good run, or wins a big game, but over the long term, it's much harder to keep that consistency up when you just don't have the talent level of MLS.

The MLS team in the competition has been the most consistent team in the 2 years of the Nutrilite... TFC had 5 points last year, 6 so far this year. with an MLS team you're never really going to bomb out.

A good quote by Martin Nash in the CP article from last night about our turf:

"It's the worst turf I've played on," said Nash. "It's really bad. It's really bouncy and doesn't roll true. It's not the right type of turf for soccer. It's more of an American football turf.
"I don't know why they chose that one. Also the traffic they put on the field, it's ludicrous really for a professional soccer team to be playing on those turf fields. They mat down and they become not good playing surfaces. I think they need to do something about it."
Nash says a grass field should be installed.
"I can't see it happening," he said. "To get the stadium they did what they had to do. If they put a grass surface in there, the product will get better."

Nash will be forced to watch the Toronto game from the bench. He drew a yellow card in the 36th minute, his second of the tournament, earning him a suspension.

yeah, but a big part of his statement is about the over use of the turf.
Maybe BC Place won't be renting out the grounds to frisbee/flag football players?

I might catch flack for this..... but the turf WAS good, when it was new.
A single MLS team playing and practicing on the turf would probably take
5-10 years before it got as much wear as ours did after the first 2 years.

Wouldn't BC Place have more play on it considering the BC Lions play and practise in that facility as well?
Don't they have to have a SSS to enter MLS anyway?

it was bad compared to real grass, but pretty decent for what it is (turf).

like anything, it will wear out from overuse.*
