Toronto's young 'keeper shows attention to details
Toronto FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei grew up idolizing United stopper Peter Schmeichel and Bayern counterpart Oliver Kahn
PAUL ATTFIELD

As the biggest fixture on the European soccer calendar, Wednesday's Champions League final is never likely to sneak up on anyone, but Manchester United's attempt to successfully defend their crown against Barcelona will also mark the 10th anniversary of the Red Devils' trophy heist at Bayern Munich's expense.

Ties are increasing in MLS this year
40% of games; Toronto FC right on league's average for draws
Eric Koreen

If a tie, as the saying goes, is like kissing your sister, then no league has as much familial affection as Major League Soccer.
Draws can be an unsatisfactory part of soccer, and this year, they have been coming in large doses.
As noted by SI.com's Noah Davis, almost 40% of the league's 68 games so far this season have ended with the score even. In each of the last three seasons, draws have never represented more than 30% of the total games.

Toronto FC plans new scoring strategy
`We're going to look to start another run and push ourselves back up'
Daniel Girard

Toronto FC head coach Chris Cummins plans to use a new strategy in the quest to help his players find their touch around the net when they host the New England Revolution this afternoon at BMO Field.
"We're going to tell them it's an away game, so maybe we'll score some more goals," Cummins said with a smile.

Reds seek first win over visiting Revs
TFC aims to improve position in East
By Mark Polishuk / TorontoFC.ca

TORONTO -- When Toronto FC play host to the New England Revolution on Saturday afternoon at BMO Field, both teams come into the match knowing a victory can set them on a spurt to the lead of the Eastern Conference -- and a loss can do the same in the opposite direction.

"Everybody beats everybody, there's draws galore. It's going to be important for whichever team possible to go and get on a run. We've just come off the back of a run [six games unbeaten in all competitions] and are looking to start another one now, and if we put another run of games together there's no reason we can't be back at the top of the table."

'Old head' on new talent
Cronin soaks up TFC experience
By LANCE HORNBY (lance.hornby@sunmedia.ca),

Sam Cronin spotted the danger before anyone, shouting a warning to Carl Robinson, whose back was to BMO Field in a media scrum as the rogue ball whizzed past his head.
Cronin, the multi-tasking rookie Toronto FC midfielder, will take any opportunity, such as yesterday's close call, to reciprocate the kindness and soccer savvy passed on to him by Robinson and others.

It probably fell into the category of the sublime and/or the epitome of stupidity like any other media ban or book burning.
