Toronto FC enjoying freedom under head coach Cummins
Attack style will be in force vs. D. C. tonight
Eric Koreen,
As Toronto FC coach Chris Cummins wrapped up a chat with a few reporters this week, he made sure to suggest a question for the next man to face the media, injured defender Adrian Serioux.
"Make sure you ask him about Nana," Cummins said, meaning Nana Attakora-Gyan, the 20-year-old Canadian who filled in for Serioux expertly in a win over Vancouver on Wednesday. The intimation was that Serioux's job might be in the process of being usurped.

Roster showing its depth
PAUL ATTFIELD
Entering the 2009 Major League Soccer season, the knock on Toronto FC was a porous defence, with accompanying question marks on the lack of depth in the squad.
Heading into tonight's top-of-the-table clash in Washington against D.C. United, on the back of three clean sheets and just one goal against in the preceding four games, the focus has shifted up front to the forwards, while recent cameo appearances seem to indicate the Reds have more quality throughout the roster than they've previously been given credit for.

TFC looks to carry solid play into D.C.
Toronto aims for more finish on scoring chances in bid to reclaim top spot in Eastern Conference
Daniel Girard
For the third straight weekend, Toronto FC is playing for first place.
Coming off a 3-0-1 homestand, TFC travels to Washington for a game tonight against D.C. United, which has gone undefeated in its last four league outings to move to the top of Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference standings, one point ahead of Toronto.
"Both teams will be full of confidence," coach Chris Cummins said before the team left Toronto. "We know it's going to be a tough game."

TFC no one-trick pony anymore
By BILL LANKHOF (bill.lankhof@sunmedia.ca)
When Toronto FC ventures into Washington today, it marks the third consecutive game in which the prize is a perch atop the Eastern Conference standings.
Get used to it. This, says the Reds' Sam Cronin, is the way it's going to be for the rest of the season.
"Everyone is so close. It just shows everybody can beat anybody," he said.

Toronto versus D.C. United preview

Neither team made the playoffs last season, but D.C. United and Toronto FC are showing that it could be a different story in 2009.
The top two clubs in the Eastern Conference will meet Saturday night at RFK Stadium as United puts its four-game unbeaten streak in league play on the line.
D.C. (3-1-4) leads Toronto (3-2-3) by one point in what has so far been a tightly-packed East. Both clubs failed to reach the postseason in 2008, and expectations weren't very high entering 2009.

Large Frei
Ryan Johnston
In August of 2008 supporters of Toronto FC woke to the headlines that midfielder Maurice Edu had been sold to Scottish giant Glasgow Rangers for the reasonable sum of US$5 million.
In just over a season-and-a-half Edu scored six goals and was named MLS top rookie in 2007. The sale quantified both Toronto FC as a franchise and Mo Johnston as an evaluator of talent.
