TFC, Whitecaps to kick off Canadian Championship
PAUL ATTFIELD
TORONTO — When the Nutrilite Canadian Championship debuted a year ago, the overriding sentiment, particularly among fans in Southern Ontario, was that the mighty Toronto FC would waltz to the title, while the Montreal Impact and Vancouver Whitecaps were merely making up the numbers.

Toronto FC out for redemption in opener with Whitecaps
Finishing second in last year's Canadian tourney was `heartbreaking'
Daniel Girard
In a busy stretch of a season where the focus is making the playoffs, this is a game that accounts for absolutely nothing in the standings.
But don't suggest to Toronto FC players and coaches that tonight's visit by the Vancouver Whitecaps is a meaningless exhibition match.
"This game is a massive game for us," TFC midfielder Carl Robinson said of the opener in the three-team Nutrilite Canadian Championship.

Reds set for Vancouver challenge
Nutrilite Canadian Championship begins Wednesday
By Mark Polishuk / MLSnet.com Staff
TORONTO -- With the second annual Nutrilite Canadian Championship is about to kick off, Toronto FC is looking to Wednesday night's match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BMO Field with both national pride and redemption in mind. "When [Toronto] is playing Montreal and Vancouver it doesn't matter what sport it is," said TFC captain Jim Brennan. "It's always a tough game and I think a lot of times tactics go out the window because passion gets involved. It'll be a battle again but it'll be one where we've got to be on the front foot from the get-go."

Impact's CONCACAF run motivates
TFC, Whitecaps; Canadian championship begins tonight
Eric Koreen,
Teitur Thordarson has coached in Sweden, Norway and his native Iceland, and played in a host of other countries.
But on Canada Day last year, this country earned a special place in the scrapbook of the Vancouver Whitecaps coach. That is the day the Whitecaps, a USL First Division club, beat Toronto FC, a club from the higher Major League Soccer, in Toronto.

Canadian championship a priority for Whitecaps
By Ian Walker,
Bob Lenarduzzi blames himself. He shouldn't, really. No one can be faulted for failing to grasp the importance of the inaugural Nutrilite Canadian Championship.
That said, the three-team, six-match, double round-robin tournament between the Vancouver Whitecaps, Toronto FC and Montreal Impact can't be ignored any longer. Not after Montreal's Cinderella run in the CONCACAF Champions League last year. The Impact's success -- the club was two minutes from clinching a berth in the semifinals -- was Canada's feel-good soccer story of the year.

Can Cummins cut it at Toronto FC? (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/blogs/2009/05/can_cummins_cut_it_at_toronto.html)
Nigel Reed
In his native land he’d have the same job. Only the title would have been different.
In North America, Chris Cummins is the interim head coach of Toronto FC (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/story/2009/04/29/sp-tfc-coach.html). On the other side of the Atlantic, he’d be referred to as the "caretaker manager."
The titles may differ but the mission remains the same: his goal is to have the interim tag removed or, if you prefer, no longer be merely the caretaker.
Whether or not Cummins realizes that ambition will rests on one thing, and one thing alone:
Results.
