Mornin'

Rookie Frei provides a ray of sunshine
PAUL ATTFIELD

Maybe a first-half watering was all it took to bring Toronto FC's youth movement into full flower.
While the deluge that accompanied Saturday's opening kickoff washed away any hopes of entertainment for fans at BMO Field, it didn't prevent the flow of play toward the home goal, as the defending MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew poured forward, out-chancing the Reds 11-2 in shots over the first 45 minutes.

Morning D

You know...one day after TFC scores you are going to fall right over our rail! ;)

Funny thing is I was trying to restrain myself and not to do it again, but as you know it did not work.Maybe because I know you will catch me like last year in few occasions when TFC scored and I almost end up head first on concrete.

I don't know why I do it, but hopefully I'll be doing it again on Wednesday and every other home game this season. :drum::scarf::flare:

This may have been talked about already but I think it is worth checking out.

http://goal.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/02/special-1-sven-and-the-pandemic/

And the latest “sick” episode of “Special 1 TV” on Setanta Sports is perhaps the funniest in recent months.
Some highlights:
¶ “Sven” is tipped by “the Special 1″ as the new coach of Toronto F.C. of Major League Soccer. Cut to Sven dressed as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. “What are you, the Brokeback Mountie?”

No it's good news. Setanta raised prices 100% in the UK. Here, Setanta is the most expensive specialty channel by far on the dial - 5 times what GolTV costs.

Better that they fail and pricing go back to more accessible levels.

Hmmm ... Good point,I'll bring something to tie myself to the chair so I can't jump and stand on railing every time we score. Maybe I can go with just standing on the chair instead of railing.:D

My strategy is one foot on rail, one foot on seat. Perfect balance! :)

But if they fail, there will be alot of games no longer shown.

Don't forget, before Setanta, we got 5 EPL games a week as opposed to 10. Who would pick these up? The Score can't, TSN won't (they lost the Champions League)

Also, there will be no more Rugby Union, Rugby League or Aussie Rules games on TV (I'm an avid follower of Union).

Gol TV never had an interest in EPL games as the rights were too expensive and they would have had to raise the rates to justify them.

Well, speaking for myself, I preferred getting 5 games at the price I used to pay (free). I don't take Setanta because it's just not worth it to me.

I hear you re rugby (and cricket, fwiw). Not something I pay attention to, but they are providing something there that didn't exist before.

I'll amend my view - here's hoping they survive, with new mgmt who take the view that they'd be better off charging a lower price, thereby broadening the viewership, so that they can get some ad dollars.

Setanta is hardly expensive here $14.95 a month/rogers, and for the quality games thats not bad...what setanta has to do is stop selling games to sportsnet...if fans want the EPL then they should purchase
the setanta package....sportsnet need to focus on Canadian teams,
TFC, Caps and Impact.

Setanta is more than 4x the cost of other specialty channels. That's alot. Especially in these times not everyone is willing to throw their spare change a 1 channel.

If you are like me and enjoy watching but don't have a team to support in England why would I shell out $200 a year? If it was $40 a year I might go for it but not $200. The weekly game on The Score or Sportsnet is fine with me.

As much as we would like others to have the same demand for football it just isn't there. That is why Sportsnet shows EPL. If we as a nation were as hungry for football as hockey Sportsnet would fight tooth and nail to get more Canadian coverage. Until then Sportsnet needs to appeal to as many people as possible or else how will they attract new fans?

I would love to see every TFC game on regular channels. Or more than just TFC, MLS wise, on GolTV.

It be better if the quality games came with quality feeds. HD is a must at $14.95/month.

That isn't Setanta's fault though. HD camera's aren't used in Europe (not even CL).

You're 100% right though.

Haha, that's exactly what I was thinking. I mean, paying 15 bucks a month is crazy enough as it is, but for a standard definition feed? Not likely. Once you go HD, it's impossible to watch sports any other way.

Ya, I it's all relative

I LOVE my new tradition of Saturday mornings, breakfast and the EPL on Setanta - been able to watch and build a better 'connection' to my own team - and ability to emotionally 'adopt' by watching so many games (and they are not a top team - Spurs). There is no way I would be into the league (and my appreciation of the game in general) without watching so much content from one league.

1 beer at BMO = Setanta (ok almost)
