View Full Version : Does Anybody Care About David Beckham Anymore?

I know I barely do...

It finally seems that all of the rampant David Beckham talk that dominated headlines leading up to the 2009 MLS season has died down. Every rational MLS fan has accepted that Becks most likely won't be in the States beyond 2009, and we've moved on.
We weren't quite jilted at the altar, but as soon as the honeymoon finished up, Becks took us aside and said, "Look, we need to talk..."
To be completely honest, I don't care if Beckham returns from Milan at all. If he ends up returning to MLS, it's just going to be a sham. Are we really supposed to believe that three more months with the league's most dysfunctional team are going to tug at his heartstrings? If you answered "yes" to that, you're only kidding yourself.

I only watch MLS because of Beckham.
Without him in the league I think I will have to put all my focus on baseball.
Anyone want to buy the rest of my season tickets?

No, I don't.

I really want to like MLS and bringing in Beckham wasn't a good idea. It may have created publicity but I hate the idea of one DP on a team and would much prefer a higher salary cap. It's a team sport.

Someday in my dreams the league gets big enough to actually compete to sign the best players in the world - but it has a long way to go.

I want to say welcome to all the Beckham fans that became Galaxy fans or MLS fans. However few you may be.

There. Something positive.

Its too bad that Beckham's Skill, Technical Ability and Football IQ is way above that of the leagues!!

^ I agree that Beckie is too good for MLS. He just didn't have the kind of skill players around him to make it all worth the trouble.

The whole situation turned into a circus...
On one hand, it did turn some attention toward MLS...
But on the other hand, it clouded the bigger picture... growing the overall talent of the entire league.

Funny you should say that, because at certain matches in Europe, fans have been known to chant "does she take it in the ass" in reference to Mr. Beckham's lovely wife.

I think he's relevant.
He's an England player, playing for AC Milan and is still a talented player. As far as a fan of the player, yes I am interested. For all the side hype, no.

Sweet!

Should we be expecting some sort of celebrity "MILF" publication alongside Britney and Christina? LOL!

I'd be interested in mlsintoronto's opinion.

From the outside, it looked like the Beckham signing gave an incredible boost to TFC season ticket sales. You could argue TFC was the biggest (maybe only?) MLS beneficiary of the Beckham signing.

The question is, would TFC have got there anyway? Also, can any connection be made between this topic and mlsintoronto's exposure to "KY Jelly for Her"?

:p

TFC's season ticket sales were steady, but nothing spectacular before Beckham came on board. (I think our club's subscriber base was a little over 7,000 before Beckham signed.) At any rate, the Beckham signing was a tremendous catalyst for ticket sales in this city. I think a lot of footy fans sort of woke up and realised we were getting an MLS team when all the Beckham hoopla started.

The "Beckham Effect" was never targeted at people like us anyway, so no, I don't care.

I'm sure the MLS FO will care, if overall league attendance is down because of his absence. But that remains to be seen.
