Cummins as caretaker is a no-brainer, Mo coming down to take over the team would just be a big bitchslap to the staff that's left.

As many other people believe, if Cummins does well, the job is his. If not, we'll see someone else take over.

We've seen Mo's success (or should I say failure) with the team. His chance is over and I don't want him running the team. Dasovic and Cummings both aren't at the level to be head coaches in the MLS and why is Danny Dichio even in the question? I want Zico!

I do not know much about him, but he does have a proven record. So if he is hired I would not be against it.

Limiatis would be my pick, but he does not have MLS experience. I do not think he would be a fan favourite, playing an unpopular style, but if we got him, I would be very happy. However, as long as the coach has a proven tract record, I am ok with it.

hes not proven....sorry USL status doesnt count...we have to either stay in Europe or go to South America as a manager, replacing Carver

Limiatis's run in CCL may be a one off thing. I suspect CCL teams severely underestimated USL teams too

I like the Dichio idea. Here's what I'd do.

Mo goes to the sideline, Dasovic and Cummins (if he stays) become assistants, Dichio becomes a playing assistant.

Minimal disruption.

See how that works. Get Nicol or Osieck at year end, if that's what makes sense, or promote one of Dichio/Dasovic/Cummins, if that's what makes sense.

23 votes so far for Dichio. LOL I can't believe so many people will put emotional attachment to the guy over anything else. Many of the same people I bet who refused to see Carver for the poor coach he is just because he's a "cool guy". Do people even care about the club's success?

CoachGT
04-25-2009, 06:25 PM
Kinda surprised by people calling in to the fan590 today saying that this is the opportunity for a domestic coach. Can someone please identify an available "domestic" coach who should take over this team? Limniatis? Mitchell? Hart? Or does domestic include US?

Cummins is probably the best available choice for now. Give him a shot and see what happens.

Dirk Diggler
04-25-2009, 06:35 PM
I know this won't be happening this season but what if CSA hires a different coach and Hart becomes available. Would Hart be a good coach? I think, at the very least, he would have a better understanding of the North American game than Carver.

As for a coach for the rest of this season, I don't see anyone becoming available. Most coaches that I would want are already employed or way out of our range. Only sub par coaches will become available from Europe during the summer and they would be another Carver in the making.

they had a good run in the CCL...but being a good manager in a lower league doesnt mean you will be a good one a division higher..
Cummins and Winsper will most likely follow Carver back to England
thats almost a gimme so TFC will have to start from scratch again.

I would be good with Cummins...and if he was the mastermind behind Wednesday's formation, I say give him a shot.

Give it to Cummins for a while, and see how he does. As the assistant coach, I think he deserves a shot to get the job done for a little while, before we look elsewhere.

I think Mo will give him a shot too, a) as he doesn't want to lose another two coaches in Winsper and Cummins, and b) as it's easier than searching for a new one.

I just hope the boys come out strong, and not looking despondent because Carver left them.

its too bad Dominic Kinnear just signed a contract extentsion, casue he would be my first pick from the MLS, i dont think Steve Nichol is the guy for the job. The Revs have a great eye for tallent, Noonan, Parkhust, Dempsey, Ralston. But thats not Nichols doing, its Tornberg.

I would have said the same thing, even before the 6-nil thrashing at the hands of RSL

Doh. My bad.

Still, no need to be so obtuse Patrick :)

I post so rarely, I need to make the best of each one... :D

I get really nervous posting nowadays... I don't quite fit in anymore, if I ever really did... :D

But anyway - all the above in the original poll don't cut it for me. This club deserves a highly experienced manager, not someone looking to potentially advance their career performing alternate roles. Anyone accepting less than a high profile manager with an exceptional history of some sort is certainly selling themselves and the club short. This is rather archetypal for the Toronto fan - it's as if we don't deserve it for some reason.

There's no hiding the fact that the quintessential 'Soccer' fan is generally a working class individual, so there generally seems to be an M.O. that suggests giving it to the little guy, as most of us are the 'little guy'. Why not strive for someone much bigger? That is my question.

Will they come? I guess you have to ask first.
Can the club afford it...? Yes, but will they?

All a very interesting development - I really believe that Carver didn't realise how bad the MLS is... Just as Beckham and others have discovered. Yes it's "our league" as the rhetoric goes... But it's "our" league with generally very poor standards. Just my opinion as I sit on my couch - which is worth...

Yes, an ASSISTANT next year. That I'd very much like to see. You don't want to throw a player right into a head coaching job. All it would do is lessen his legend status when inexperience shows and he fails. As if a guy like Danny could utilize players like De Ro and Guevara without any experience, Carver couldn't do it with experience in England...
