New pairing keeps focus on TFC defence
PAUL ATTFIELD

TORONTO — Whatever his reasons for taking a bird's-eye view of last Wednesday's proceedings at BMO Field, the vantage point can only have helped Toronto FC head coach John Carver see the big picture.
He saw a new-look formation (4-3-3) create chance after chance against Major League Soccer's best team, Chivas USA, but the fact that only one of the home side's six shots found the back of the net put the onus squarely on the defence to batten down the hatches once again.

Toronto FC benefits from Carver's eye in the sky
Coach might sit in box again for Wizards game after success vs. Chivas
Daniel Girard

Toronto FC made a host of changes – on the field and the sideline –before playing the best game of their young season on Wednesday.
So, conventional wisdom suggests that with the Kansas City Wizards coming to town tomorrow it'll be more of the same – an attack-focused lineup and head coach John Carver watching from an upstairs box rather than the sideline.

Velez pleased to get chance
Defender hopes to stay in team

Toronto FC defender Marco Velez hopes his performance against Chivas USA will help him earn another start when the Reds face Kansas City Wizards at BMO Field on Sunday (kick off 5:00 p.m. live on GOLTV)

Velez returned to the side for the win over Chivas on Wednesday and made his second start of the season. "It felt good," he said. "I've been working hard in training so that I would be ready when I got the chance and it was great to be out there competing in front of the fans. I knew what I needed to do and was ready for the challenge so I just tried to go out and do the simple things right." The Puerto Rico international started 23 games in his rookie season in MLS last year, but before Wednesday had only started in the 1-1 tie at Columbus Crew.

Carver keeps coop cryptic
By LANCE HORNBY (lance.hornby@sunmedia.ca)

Fans of the Where's Waldo? game might engage in more Where's Carvo? tomorrow at BMO Field when Toronto FC plays the Kansas City Wizards. Will the suddenly reclusive Toronto FC coach direct the squad from the press box again? Or perhaps he will try the stadium's beer garden for an end-zone view or even sit among the crowd, behind a red scarf while singing the praises of Danny Dichio?

Flare won't change security: MLSEL
By LANCE HORNBY (lance.hornby@sunmedia.ca)

There will be no additional police presence or special searches for flares tomorrow at BMO Field when Toronto FC plays Kansas City.
A 26-year-old female fan suffered second-degree burns to her leg when a lit flare struck her Wednesday during a Chivas-TFC game.
Two flares were tossed, but security, with the help of fans, quickly caught the alleged culprits, a pair of teens who were both charged with a variety of assault and weapons offences.
