MLS sure does love this guy, they make up all kinds of new rules, exemptions, and extensions for Beckham and LA. now they are going against the fans vote and declaring Beckhams empty net goal goal of the week even though Colorados McManus won the fan vote. sickening!

Near as we can tell this was a mistake on the part of ESPN and there is nothing sinister about it but Colorado Rapids fans would be justified in feeling jobbed and also feeling some outrage that their legitimate winner was not shown.

Yeah it is prob a mistake and normally i'd give the benefit of the doubt, but its just with all the tactics MLS has pulled since beckham joined the league i wouldn’t be surprised if it was rigged.

Scandal-wise, goal of the week seems pretty minor. But the constant changing of the rules is a problem. The league thinks it needs to in order to increase interest and attract more fans, but that never works.

I remember when the NHL made a bunch of accomodations for Gretzky, changed some rules and stuff, all with the idea of 'growing' the game in the southern US. Now we see a news report today saying what we all know, the NHL has topped out in the states and is starting to shrink.

And really, soccer doesn't need the help, it will continue to grow anyway, but I guess when people put up so much money on something they aren't sure about, they want to hedge their bets as much as they can.

Didn't the Parkhurst goal make it into the Goal of the Year voting even though it didn't win Goal of the Week last year?

That was normal. They took all of the GOTW plus select others that were "wild cards" or "close seconds" that also merited to make it into the GOTY voting. That was perfectly normal.

I think the Parkhurst goal...was competing with the DD goal of the same game...Legend
