Unfortunately not because only the top team gets through and we have 4 while Man City has 6 so if we win we finish on top with 7 but if not Man City finishes on top with 7 or 9
PS there is a wildcard that gets in but unfortunately another division has two 6 point teams who are both virtually assured spots in the semis

Don't forget TFc Academy is 2 or 3 years old and all the other teams are way older and richer than us.
I'm so proud of our boys...I just hope they don't get scooped by European clubs before we can have them play for our senior team for a couple seasons at least.

ah...shite....City has one of the best Academies around so any kind of respectable score from TFC's p-o-v would be good.

I love both clubs to the core, but progression would likely mean more to TFC and benefit TFC more than City, so by a 50.1% to 49.9% I'd like TFC to win, but for once in my life will not be too disappointed if we lose/draw.

Great performance to beat Milan 3-0, andyet there is f##k all on the official webs(h)ite about this achievement.

The way MLS works, we can't take full advantage of our academy anyway.

I seem to remember we can put discovery claims on two of them or something, but the rest just evaporate, maybe even into the draft.

Anyway, can somebody clarify the academy to first team situation please?

From the way I understand it, exiled, you have it just abouton the money, except I believe the rest are just up for grabs to the first team that wants them, not the draft although who really truly gets the stupid MLS rules.

The MLS has really moved away from development in my opinion by no longer having a reserve league and reducing the roster to 24 from 28, with really only 4 dev. spots I know it is nice to develop players but you really need a place for them to progres to.

I know this might be something of an extreme but I counted about 51 players on the Arsenal site between their 1st and reserve teams, that does not include any of their youth teams.

I know New York at one point was thinking of signing one of their academy players but backed off it out of fear that if they did and a better player in the future came up they would be unable to sign them.

I could be wrong, but neither of those make sense to me. What about Ibbe and Adu? Both played at or before 17... both were GA players I think... I dunno. Work permit doesn't seem to hold any ground either if he's playing in this tournament, he should at least be able to play our away games... no?

Hopefully changes are made by 2011. With two teams having an expansion draft, all the other teams are going to have a lot of depth to replace. What better place to go to than your own academy.

I was just thinking about that... but he has his work permit already. His situation would be closer to the Da Silva twins who were not able to play for United until they turned 18... Macheda was signed to the youth program and has spent two years playing in England already. There is probably some weird rule governing the different situations.

Again this is a situation when the crazy FIFA rules come into play, I think you're able to transfer between clubs at the age of 16 within Europe but not outside of the EU until 18, same goes for people in other countries: same country when you're 16 others when you're 18. At least that's the simplistic way in which I wrap my head around it.
