"I've travelled from the other side of the world to play for my country now for the last two years, but I just feel the time is right,"

"If I was in this country I'd still carry on playing (for Wales)... but this is a decision purely on my life now is in North America, I want to play as long as I can over in North America with the objective of getting into management.

This seems like a very tough decision for Robinson as an individual, but it is great news for TFC.

I wish Carl all the best.

Danny D. has previously stated that he might like to work with the TFC academy after his playing days are over.

I am sure that TFC/MLS will be able to use the talents of a stand up guy like Carl Robinson.

my father and I were kinda wondering if this would happen as we watched the germany-wales game today, since Robbo was a sub in the first game, and didn't even get a sniff today. It seems kinda pointless at that age, to travel across the world and sit on a bench. if he was 23 it would be sitting on the bench for a chance at the future.

we need him and I'm glad he won't be leaving anymore this season.

I was just thinking that actually, Wales is pretty much out of the WCQ and Robbo has to travel really far for it. It'd be another two years before qualifying for EURO 2012 by which time he might no longer be considered for Wales anyway. It's not that much of a surprise to me, but I'm glad he made it. TFC supporters everywhere will be very grateful. We should salute his international career.

No I know its not an uncommon decision. But its a bit selfish to say good decision don't you think? I commend him for making a tough decision. And I appreciate that he made the one I'd prefer lol. But I'm not gonna be so presumtive as to say Good Choice or something like that. It had to be a difficult call for the man.

Dichio & Brennan attended the USSF B licence program in Florida this past winter; so it's shaping up that some players will step into coaching when they are done playing. All these internationals get fast tracked to the B level, they just need to "pass" the various evaluations to gain entry to the A levels. Sutton also does some coaching as well.

Couple of years down the road, TFCA will have coaches named Dichio, Robinson, Sutton and Brennan. That's pull factor; goodbye OSA fartcatchers.

Think of it this was, your boy is u14. Robbo rings up and says, "I want your boy here at TFC, me and Danny are running the u14 program!"
What do you say - naw, I'll stay with X local youth club???
Helllll noooo... where do you sign ....

Thats too bad. Good for us but probably bad for Wales. I can definitely understand the decision though. Wales are shite at the moment, and after getting beat by Finland at the weekend I can see the desire to move on. They also have a good number of young guys coming through who are quite decent, so I can see understand how Wales will want to integrate these guys into the national setup to find some success in future campaigns. I read the Bellamy story about how he envies Ireland at the moment, and how the Irish have a relatively limited squad finding success at the international level. This is mostly because the squad is made up of guys who want to be there, whereas Welsh players have mostly fucked off for a large part of there career (Giggs etc.) or they dont play for Wales at all (Hargreaves [cunt], Michael Owen).

Although Wales do need a facelift of sorts, they do need guys like Robbo - solid players who do genuinely want to play for wales, and play with heart week in week out. Probably an incredible attribution to the bench (no sarcasm) and a good role model, so he will be a loss to younger welsh players who would learn what its like to be a true professional.

Well done Robbo! Tough decision, but you said it yourself -- it was probably time to go. But still, flying across the Pond each time to sit on a bench, that's dedication. (And for those of you who have taken plane rides across ANY ocean, you know how hard it is.)

To greater glory! And yes, we love you! :D

Easy on the Giggs slander mate. He was capped 64 times for Wales and also captained them. Yes he missed 18 friendly internationals in a row but apparently that was because Alex Ferguson would not release him to play in those games.
Sorry but I feel obliged to defend one of the premier league's greatest ever players.

He probably figured it didn't make sense to leave his full-time club shorthanded from time to time, if he wasn't even going to be getting regular minutes anymore.

A huge decision for him to make, and one I appreciate. Having him around full-time will be a huge boost for our defense.

Here's to you, Carl Robinson!

P.S. - It's actually good for TFC that he didn't play on Wednesday, since it makes it more likely he will start this weekend. Carver said in his most recent TFC TV video, that he wasn't 100% sure that he and Amado would start, since they both were playing on Wednesday.

Well lets lay things out. Carver isn't going anywhere for a while. Neither is Mo. Great players do not always make great Managers and vice versa. It would be nice to see our players stick with the organization is some capacity after their playing time is done, but there are only so many coaching spots we have. We're going to have to accept that some of these guys may end up coaching in other cities. Not just assume that since Robinson wants a spot in coaching or management it's with TFC.

This makes sense for him. Although a tough decision, it's the right one for him. As was said before he has been travelling halfway around the world and getting very limited minutes for Wales. They also have some pretty good youngsters coming up in the ranks as well. Aaron Ramsay had a pretty solid game in the centre of midfield yesterday against the Germans, so it looks to me that Tosh is looking to the future and the younger players.

Here's to you Carl Robinson,

Agreed. After Germany went up a goal Robbo was never making it onto the pitch I'm afraid. With that said I am over the moon that we'll have him available for selection every week.

Yes I was being a bit selfish saying it was a good decision. But as a Welshman I would much rather Robbo played for TFC rather than Wales.

There is really no point in him flying across the Atlantic to play for 20 minutes in 2 games like he did this week. Wales are trying to build on youth and there will be no place for him the next time they have a meaningful match.

So it was a good decision for him and for us.

great for tfc and awesome that he will be fresh for saturday

maybe we should look at bigger picture and maybe the boys can move on up and coach or assist with cmnt

Robbo made the decision with his head not his heart. He realizes that he is no longer as effective at that level of play and that Wales will be fine without him. He’s acknowledged that 4th-5th tiered soccer is just the right way to go at this stage in his career. Everyone wins here, although I’m sure a gut wrenching decision for him to make and accept.

My respect for Robbo just keeps on growing. That boy is loved here as much as Dichio and Brennan. I'm in for any show of support for Robbo on Saturday.

Special chant early in the game maybe? We could do something dead simple like just chant Rooooboooooo for a couple of minutes so he hears us and gets the mssage. Then we all move on. He knows how important he is to us - player of the year twice in a row!

Good news for us. Well done to Robbo for getting to 50 caps, i guess losing a couple of games over the weekend confirmed Wales won't be going to the world cup, so may as well call it quits now, but still tough decision, and some kind of acknowledgement definitely deserved.
