I would be quite the fool if I responded to a link from MLS-Rumours. You should've disguised the link to read "Soccer by Ives.";)

(sigh....) Only USL could be dumb enough to announce this on April Fool's Day.

It is a team. It is in USL-1. It is starting in 2010.

Ives had the story you tart.

http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2009/04/fc-new-york-to-join-usl1-in-2010.html

And it is actually quite interesting. If the fee to join the USL 1 is low and you have the potential to put money into the players, like say 5 million salary cap, who is stopping you from building a team that destroys the MLS clubs?

the USL has a rule that says each team must have a nickname

Ok, we're the F.C's :)

"In five years, our plan is to be in our own place, have a productive team that's competing in CONCACAF (Champions League) and winning championships," Petersen said.

Is there a CL berth for the open cup winner? wouldn't that be the only way into the CL for an American USL team?

That would be the only way they get in ATM. I hope that changes. As it looks like right now, the MLS will stop at 20 teams but there are some amazing markets that can be tapped for soccer and if USL can build up its profile and create some great markets similar to Montreal, and it looks like Porto Rico to possibly allow for the combination of leagues in the far future

and anyone that beats the Shite! Red Bulls is good in my books.
