Former USMNT defender Gregg Berhalter agreed to end his contract with 1860 Munich 3 months early today, and signed a 2 year contract with MLS, though it is unclear which club he will play for right now.

The most evidence you can find of him on Youtube is him taking a bunch of penalties - the above is one of them.

Since I follow 1860, I've seen him play a lot in the past couple years. He's lost a step, but the reason he's leaving the club is because he hasn't gotten along well with the new coach. He isn't a problematic guy though - he was captain until this year. I definitely think he has the quality to be a starting defender for us - he is far better than both Velez and Harmse.

According to Joe Ross on the Score (citing Steve Goff) he says the likely destination is the Galaxy.

That article was pretty straightforward but it does nothing to dispel the notion that MLS is a retirement league, however. That's unfortunate but hopefully, he's a good player; I haven't seen/heard anything about him.

Sorry about that - should have checked the forums more carefully before posting. I guess that Galaxy need him as much as us, and he's not international for them.
