View Full Version : What I LIKED about Columbus! (A crazy notion, I know)

Well there have been plenty of things said one way or another about Columbus being a shithole or whatnot, but I had a great time and would like to share a bit about what I thought was cool about Columbus:

The Hotel: I thought the hotel was wicked (Sheraton), $100/night for the room we had (king size bed, living room, lcd's, etc etc), teenage semi formal chicks were hot and believed we were all players on TFC (where's our top striker at??). Also great location and close to my favorite thing about Columbus, coming up next.

Winkin Lizard: Wow, what a pub. Ton of beers, and the best Double Bacon Cheesburger I think I've ever had... 1/2 pound patties, HUGE and DELICIOUS... all for $8. Great time with everyone that came out there after the game.

Hooters: Also hit up the Hooters randomly before the game, smoking waitresses there too, bunch of American girls bought us beer b/c of our TFC gear (Molson Canadian no less, which was definitely expired and tasted like ass).. so we sent them back a pitcher of what the waitress reccomended as the shittiest American beer... I forget what it was called... Budweiser American Ale... with a little note saying "This is equal to one Canadian beer"... unfortunately they were not amused :noidea: Our waitress was also smoking hot!

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a37/Ratven/P1000854.jpg

Nordecke: Is that how you spell it? Either way, their supporters section was impressive, for all the shit that's talked about Columbus fans, I have to give them respect because they definitely brought it. Heard them every once in a while when there was a lull in our chanting... but it was impressive. If that's what we sound like when we're all together on a chant (because I know there were at least as many of us as there are of them) then I would shit my pants to hear us from the other side. Regardless, the times I heard them, I was impressed, and it's definitely more than most teams have for sure. Doesn't excuse them having only 14,000 people there on opening day when they're the champs... and like 2-3000 of that was us. I'd say their best one was the one they shout at our goalkeeper when... I couldn't hear what they were saying... and have to admit it sounded really lame like "Hey goalkeeper you suck at goal" or something... but it was all together and impressive. Also the Scholetto is visually really cool, even if he's a diving cunt. All together, for a supporters group we made a year ago, not too shabby ;)

The TIFO: That newspaper TIFO was AAAAAMAZING. EVERYONE sat down and pulled out newspapers... it was brilliant, great suggestion whoever came up with it in USector, everyone pulled together and executed perfectly. When the "Booooring, Booooring, Booooring" chants started I got huge goosebumps, and it was reported by some people (I don't know if this is true or not) that they had to restart part of the ceremony because we were so loud. Letting all those newspapers fly was also epic.

TFC Supporters: Awesome atmosphere as usual, great to have most people know all the songs... I'd say we should save most of the drinking for during/after the game, because a lot of people definitely can't handle it and everything just gets uncoordinated, but otherwise solid support. I was near the back so I couldn't hear us that well, but I've heard from others that we sounded awesome. I also spoke to some Columbus fans who sat at midfield and they were saying that we were usually drowning out the Columbus support, they also admitted that we had a large hand in growing the Columbus supporters section, and that its pretty well accepted by whatever fans Columbus has that aren't in the supporters groups and in denial. I was pretty surprised and impressed by this because I hadn't said anything about it, they volunteered the info. All in all, great time, reconnected with a lot of friends from roadtrips past, people from last season, etc etc etc.

Some Class shown by Crew FO: I actually really liked and appreciated that they put John Carver's postgame on the big screen for us to watch after the game, they definitely didn't have to do that, and I think it was a little bit of a thank you from them to us. It was a great capper to the whole experience and to chanting for 15 minutes after the whistle :D

As much as we call Columbus a shithole, it is a really a nice city. The area by the stadium needs some work but the Arena District and the area around the hotel was really nice.

agreed, the hudson street area and most of the east side (from the north all the way to central downtown) is pretty awful, but once youre south east (old german district) and go clockwise around up to the hotels (NW side) its a decent city.

Ratven, now this is a fucking mint thread. Well done lad and holy fuck that's a hot waitress.

My favourite parts of the trip:

getting into a cab in the Arena district and telling the driver, "Sheraton hotel somewhere... just follow that cab in front of you!" Only for that cabbie to have no clue how to drive and him respond "what the hell is that idiot doing" and pass him as soon as we got on the street.

The banners that were all fantastic.

The supporters that banded together creating the best UNITY I've seen since our inception. Fuckin' eh.

Being the starting forward for Toronto FC, well at least those cute 'eighdeeeens' thought so anyway. That's some quality shit right there.

Many more great points but can't get them out all at once...

The Arena district clubs were awesome. Me and my boys had a blast Saturday night into the wee hours of the morning. Add that to taking a point away and our weekend was rated an A. (A+ if we would have won).

Even ran into some TFC players...won't name which ones or where.

I mentioned this in another thread. Whether is was because of us or not, they fucking BROUGHT IT. Big ups to the crew supporters section. They were loud and proud and I salute that. Especially hearing "WE CAN'T HEAR YOU", only to have the TFC support stop... listen, then come back with a HUGE rendtion of a 5 minute Forza TO. :D :D :D

The unity in the stands was amazing!

Big props to Mas and Marcel for ripping their hands to shreds drumming! I'm really glad Rooney lent me some gloves.

The chants were going great, the combined drumming and the capos that were co-ordinating (Leo on the one side, Flush on the other and later on Boris in the middle) all worked well.

The Winking Lizard with the $4.25 32oz beers was awesome! Meeting more die-hard TFC supporters there on Friday night was a good highlight of the trip for me as well. Thanks for the pint, guys!

I had a great time. As most have said, the city of Columbus is very nice and we had great food everywhere we went.

The Unity was impressive, the newspaper tifo rocked. Thanks to the guys at Usector for coming up with it and sharing.

Every Columbus supporter I met was more than nice and they came together really well and it was fun to see their work in the stands, very impressive.

Overall that was one of the best large travelling experiences I have had. Good work to everyone involved.

Seeing old friends and making new ones (Blue Nose...please put the knife down..:)) and all the red in the stands. That's what I liked about CBus. I do have to say the Sheraton was NICE! Two tv's a couch and a microwave. Good job on the away team for this hook-up. Better than last years Red Roof Inn (which I think burned down????)
Anyway, I do give the Crew supporters credit for their show at the game. If the rest of CBus would follow their lead then that place would truely be a BMO South.
I was talking to a friend of mine who is in the HSH (don't worry, he's okay, he's from Pittsburgh) and let him know how nice the North end looked with all the colour. When it comes down right to it we are both in the same business of supporting our clubs and that's what counts.
All in all I'd say I had a vaginel good time.

Being at the biggest LEGAL tailgate held by RPB! Looking down from the stands at the sea of Red was nothing short of amazing! Give it to the Columbus FO for making sure that our group had it's own area (to the east of the stadium) with very few Crew supporters nearby. As well as having an entrance/exit for us.

Bus rides to and from the stadium were rockin! Especially enjoyed the comment about the church on the way - the roof said "Jesus is Lord" and someone yelled out "look, they spelled Dichio wrong!"

Unity in the stands was great, as it is in most road games!

Two neat things - during the pre-game chants, singing to Dichio (he's got no hair and we don't care) and him looking back at us and rubbing his head, laughing! And JC stirring us up at the end! Priceless!

Could very well have been, I remember my friend telling me in a drunken stupor that her name was Angela, so LeAngela seems quite likely.

She was all over the menu and on the gift cards.

Besides being really hot, she was super sweet and very friendly.

I loved the chance to really show our support as one united front.
I also loved the atmosphere on the bus, Red Dragon...well done.
I enjoyed meeting some of the crew fans to see what the opinions of the masses are, and paraphrasing one of their guys he told me they loved it everytime we come to Columbus because it creates an atmosphere that no other away team can bring.
TIFO was amazing. Great coordination
Jesus was hilarious.
Hotel staff was very courteous despite some unnecessary destruction.

UNITY was the best part of this trip.

Whether it was the Newspaper tifo at the beginning, the singing and chanting, or the smoke at the end, all groups were together and in on everything.

Big thanks to the drummers. Mas, Jack, Wagner, Roogsy, redrat, Rooney - -am I forgetting anyone?
The drumming was great. Whoever was on Red Thunder did a good job working with the other two smaller drums. After last year we are now learning the proper use of that drum. (still some work to do :D)

And a huge thanks to anyone who who took photos, shot video etc.

We can do all these displays all we want, but if we don't have someone willing to sacrifice a bit to capture the moment, we won't be able to see it and appreciate it after.

THANKS!

I was looking at a bit of the reply last night on GOL. I missed this the first time, as I was focussing on the game and the commentary, but the Dichio song at 23-minutes (through about 25 minutes!) was very evident (and later at 45-minutes as well when he came on the pitch - I noticed that the first time!). Completely cracked me up.

It was so evident, that a couple of minutes later, as I was carrying my 16-month old daughter to bed, I realised she was singing it herself!

Excellent cheering guys! With your energy you might have even saved us from loosing - there's no doubt it had an impact on the players.

ya when i watched it on TV i realized they were louder then us for most the game. But that was probably the best atmosphere they ever had and if it werent for are +1,500 fans there then they probably would of been there usually shit selfs. They need to keep that type of atmosphere and then there supporter group might get some respect. ( oh and get rid of those rediculous hooligan T-shirts to, what a joke :p)
