Toronto FC rookie earns his 'keep

TORONTO As debuts go, Toronto FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei made a fairly balanced start to his Major League Soccer career last weekend. Twice he was called on to make saves, and twice more he was called on to pick the ball out of the net following unstoppable drives from Kansas City Wizards midfielder Davy Arnaud.
While facing just four shots on goal might not seem to be the best way to test your mettle in your first professional outing, as far as Toronto's new No. 1 is concerned, it was four shots too many.

Dale Mitchell fired with Canadian soccer team ranked 94th

TORONTO On the surface, Dale Mitchell leaves the Canadian men's soccer team where he found it ranked 94th in the world.
Only the neighbours have changed. In May 2007, the Canadians were sandwiched between Libya and Ethiopia. Today, it is Mozambique and the Congo Democratic Republic.
Mitchell's firing Friday leaves the men's team rudderless once again. And the Canadian Soccer Association presumably with less money to spend on the pitch, with Mitchell's contract running through 2010.

Toronto versus Columbus preview

For the first time in team history, Toronto FC opened a season with a victory. Now, the club looks to beat the Columbus Crew for the first time on Saturday when it visits the reigning MLS Cup champions for their home opener.
Toronto (1-0-0) is coming off a strong performance in a 3-2 victory at Kansas City last Saturday, marking the first time the club won a season opener.

I am looking forward to see a sea of red in Columbus. I will be watching it tape delayed, so turning the computer and phone off from 4 til 7pm.
