spurs are reportedly going to save 40m pounds on their new stadium because of the current 'economic crisis' so why are we supposedly waiting until the recession will most likely be over? get it done after this season!

Lesson from the Great Depression: if things are even worse next year, then it'll be even cheaper the following year, as workmen will accept ever lower wages as they get more desperate. Maple Leaf Gardens got built in 1931 because Conn Smythe got the men who built it to accept shares in the company in lieu of pay.

So there's really no rush from MLSE's pov.
These are very worrying times.

interesting read and definitely something to think about.

another thing is that costs will probably go up a fair bit if/when our dollar fly's again when oil goes back up (as it surely will) and if the US dollar drops because of their increased debtlaod & printing of money

I dont think this will help MLSE nor should it.

You must rememebr most trades that built BMO are Unionised Companies and they are not at the point of TAKING PAY CUTS.
The only advantage that MLSE might have is some neogatating power over some big companies since over all trades are slow.

But i dont see it being like the great deprresion where people took peanuts to do dangerous jobs

basicly it was this quote that got me thinking bmo field lol

"The stadium build cost has come down by about £40million because of a fall in the price of steel and cement,"

No it's not close to there now. But given how things are going, it could get there in a year or two.

I've said it 100 times.

The earliest it will happen is for the 2011 season. However, due to the economic crisis it is likely to be pushed back to 2012 or 2013.
