"But the TFC was fortunate for the result"
Bollocks. We looked a bit shaky 1st half, but Montreal were naturally more up for it against the bigger club- just like an FA Cup tie between a Prem team and alower division club.
We completely controlled the 2nd half.
Good to see Greg Sutton managed to get his name and number on an outfield shirt - presumably after last week's match at that stall in the South Stand....perhaps the club can invest in a different colour goalie shirt :)

We didnt deserve the win, we were not the better team. . and MTL should have been awarded a penalty when Velez pushed down Rocco Placentino in the box early in the first half.

The set-piece goal was AMAZING, dont get me wrong, but the amount of chances MTL created, and the stop of their defence were superior.

I'll admit, that was one of theWORST performances from our boys to date, and everyone knows it. I'll take the result. . but with a grain of salt. . we better bring a LOT more Vs Whitecaps.

Wait a minute. . . Stefano Pesoli . . . RED CARD . . does that mean he is un-eligible to play when MTL come to BMO ?

I have to agree 100% with you on that. I'm very happy for the win, but wow, that was disappointing play. MTL created so many more chances than TO. Next game vs them will be an interesting one.

Agree, especially since they were down a man for the better part of 2nd half.

I gotta figure Harmse, Cunny, and Tebily are a bit rusty, not having played much with the team.

Hmm.. I though we completely bossed the 2nd half. It was not a vintage performance- it was scrappy and MTL were unlucky not to get a penalty in the 1st, but I thought we were worth the points ..

Carver: "It was a tough game."

Toronto FC coach John Carver has given credit to Montreal Impact following his sides 1-0 win at Stade Saputo in the opening game of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship on Tuesday night. Marco Velez scored the goal in the 73rd minute, heading in a cross from Laurent Robert. The Reds came away with three points against the United Soccer League side, who played for 10 men for much of the second half after Stefano Pesoli was sent off for a second yellow card in the 53rd minute. Toronto FC coach John Carver was impressed with the way Montreal played. "They've shown the United Soccer League is a very good standard," said Carver. "Some of the opposition performed and opened up my eyes. There isn't that much of a difference between the two leagues," Carver said.

Montreal plays two more games, both against Vancouver before they come here, so he should be eligible by then (barring any further discipline).

Since the TFC goalie shirt is black, putting on a red shirt was the most sensible thing.
