Heady expectations for TFC
By LANCE HORNBY (lance.hornby@sunmedia.ca), SUN MEDIA

The first Toronto FC player to say "just happy to be here" could find himself shoved out the south end of BMO Field and tossed into Lake Ontario.
Everyone expects more from this team, mostly the surviving veterans of three training camps under restless general manager Mo Johnston, who almost is settled on a roster of experienced TFC players, youth and incoming MLS veterans.
"The standard has gone up immensely," defender Jim Brennan said as the team warmed up for Saturday night's season-opener in Kansas City.

Toronto FC ready to take next step
Reds players, management expect first playoff berth in franchise history

TORONTO -- With Toronto FC's third season about to get underway, the consensus among fans and pundits alike is the 2009 TFC squad is the club's strongest squad yet. Such a forecast means that anything less than the team's first-ever postseason berth would be a disappointment, and TFC upper management are fully aware that it is time for the Reds to enter a new stage in their development.
"We're approaching this a bit like the honeymoon's over," said Tom Anselmi, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. "An expansion team kind of gets a free pass for a couple of years. The expectations of performance are reasonably low because people understand that it takes time to build an expansion team. But we're starting to feel that [pressure], and recognizing that team performance is becoming more and more important now."

Tomorrow starts Saturday
By Ryan Johnston

On Saturday in Kansas City, Toronto FC will try to do something it failed to do in 11 of 15 games last season: earn a point away from home.

"One of my goals for the season is to pick up more road points," Carver said of the upcoming season opener. "I need to put a team there that is going to pick up points on the road, and I will do that and I will change the team on the road from time-to-time in order to try and win games."

BMO Field key to TFC's success
NEIL DAVIDSON

TORONTO — History shows for Toronto FC that if you build it, they really will come. BMO Field will be jammed once again for every game of the MLS team's third season.
Season tickets are capped at 16,000 with another 14,000 on the waiting list. Every game will be on TV and this season there's even a radio deal.
"I get asked this question all the time. 'Did you ever expect it to be so successful out of the gate?"' says Tom Anselmi, executive vice-president and CEO for Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment. "The answer is 'No, we didn't actually.'

De Rosario ready to live the 'dream' with Toronto FC
By John F. Molinaro

It's the moment that Dwayne De Rosario has been looking forward to ever since he came home.
Traded to Toronto FC from the Houston Dynamo in December, the veteran midfielder is set to make his regular season debut for the Canadian club when it opens the 2009 Major League Soccer season on the road against the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday.

"We are absolutely committed to winning," Anselmi stated. "We're a good business company, we'll do fine business-wise, but it's all about winning."

Maple Leaf Sports is all about winning?

I guess he's right... I mean, the Leafs did win that cup a few years ago in 1967.

Opposing players disappear in a sea of streamers when they try to take a corner kick in front of the diehards supporters. And when the game enters the 24th minute, they always make a point of singing the praises of towering striker Danny Dichio's first ever goal for the club."

Hence the Piece of TIN they BUilt wich could be ripped down as fast as they built! if it wasnt a success!

Also i'll hold him to this quote.

"One of the keys to success here has been having a soccer-specific stadium, no question about it," Anselmi acknowledged.

Not kidding. But not a hard rule really. TSN does not support soccer, does not support TFC and generally provides piss poor journalism when it comes to football. So some of us believe that we shouldn't give them any hits or recognize their reporting.

Writting about Otto Velez proves my point.
