Yes, there was a promo. I heard it too!!!!!

I'm not finding anything - this may be down to the aggressive internet blocking at work (can't access The FAN590), or that someone goofed this morning and they weren't meant to play that until after some sort of announcement... or, once again, TOBOR is late to the party.

Just checked, Fan590 is most definitely going to be airing TFC games with this weekends match against KC being the first. they are unsure as to the total number of games that will be aired at this time, so I guess we wont officially know until the announcement is made.
Rogers is swooping up Toronto FC broadcasting like it's our job.

I'll do it, but as the thread creator, it's within your power as well.
Just hit the edit button in the first post, and then hit the go advanced button.
An option to edit the title should be there for you. :)

Interesting. I wonder if they would simply get the license to re-broadcast the existing TV commentary or if they're sending down a team to call the game from the press box.

This is great news. I know myself sometimes it is difficult to be around a TV for certain games due to travel but at least this provides another media option for the games.

Any idea who the commentators would be or if they would do what the Raptors did a couple of years ago and simulcast the TV/radio?

Next time I see him around the office I will be sure to make a snide remark along the lines of "Hey Bob, how about the fan advancing Toronto FC Soccer with all the coverage this year! Much smarter than having the Argos...am I right?"

Both big advancements for this organization from a knowledge standpoint, as a revenue generating unit for MLSE.
Very pleased with the company right now.
More exciting news in what promises to be a very exciting season.

I recall Dan doing commentary for the the Lynx on Rogers 10 a few years ago. I really hope he isn't doing the commentary for TFC. As much as it was hard to watch the product, it also made it hard to listen to.

I may be wrong but that's the rumour I'd heard.

I don't mind Dunleavy in that he is a professional broadcaster but I wasn't that keen on his Lynx work either.

He's very much from the cookie cutter mode that many of today's sportscaster are from. The new guy for the Raptors is an example. Maybe you didn't like Chuck but you knew it was Chuck!

So many of the new guys are interchangeable with personality sublimated behind the formulaic "get louder now", "get thoughtful now", "tell unfunny joke now" and "it's time to scream" that is so disappointing about North American sportscasting.

Hey - let's not be too hard on Dan just yet. I never heard his lynx commentary, but I'm sure he's come a long way over the years and will have learned from doing Rock and Canadian Juniors / World's broadcasts. Let's give him a chance to get out of the gate before laying into him too hard !

haha Tobor...that's fighting a losing battle right there my man.
To get the majority of the fans on here to not rip on something before they even see the product is impossible.
Give the guy a chance, unless you have some sneak preview of what his work is going to be like for Toronto FC.

Why dinosaurs? The Fan are soccer friendly - EPL game of the week, Soccer Show, International Sports Report, Champions League updates on match days, the program dirrector is a Spurs Fan, Saturday Sixeiro Show.

Lots of soccer coverage these days.

Don't lump the whole station in with McCowan.

I cannot argue with you regarding the new mold of sportscasters. Very few I would consider irreplaceable, and DunLeavy would definately fall within this category. Mind you, I don't mind his commetary on the Rock games, but I thought footy just wasn't his game. Who knows...maybe his style has come around.

The main thing is, we are finally getting the games on radio and that in itself is amazing and look overdue.

McCowan doesn't hate soccer...he might actually like it...he just knows how to turn the screws...love him or hate him, we still listen

Kelly, the morning show dweebs, toth, Cox and some others hate the game because its a threat to their livlihood. christ, Toth can't even pronounce names that don't rhyme with Smith or Jones.

Hogan is honest...he just doesn't like the sport (much the same way as I don't like the CFL). i can live with that.

But the station is now loaded with people who truly do like/love the sport

even Jack Armstrong loves the sport (he's a TFC SSH and his wife is a former college soccer player)

I almost stopped listening to the Fan about a year ago (except for the Soccer Show) but they've won me back with people who truly are passionate about the sport and semi-regular chat about soccer and our club

TORONTO FC ANNOUNCES RADIO PARTNERSHIP WITH THE FAN 590

Toronto FC announced Tuesday that the club has teamed up with Toronto’s 24 hour sports radio station The FAN 590 to broadcast every game this season. With the team heading into their third season in Major League Soccer, this will mark the first time Toronto FC games will be broadcast on the radio in the team’s history.
The FAN 590 will broadcast all 30 games on the schedule. Fifteen games will be broadcast live in their entirety, with two to be joined in progress. The remaining thirteen games will air on The FAN’s website www.fan590.com (http://www.fan590.com/).
“We’re happy to have secured the radio coverage our supporters have been asking for,” said Tom Anselmi executive vice president and chief operating officer of Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment Ltd. This agreement further extends our deal with The FAN and Rogers Media to another one of our sports properties.”
The first broadcast will air this Saturday, March 21 as Toronto FC travels to Kansas City to take on the Wizards as they open their 2009 MLS regular season. The broadcast will get underway at 8 p.m. ET with the Dan Dunleavy handling the play-by-play and former Canadian National team member Bob Iarusci serving as Analyst.

... so, 2 games joined during progress and 13 available online. Still, though, better than what we had, yeah ?
