TFC players support MLS expansion in Canada
More teams a benefit for athletes, national squad

CHARLESTON, S.C.–Jim Brennan has seen the difference on Toronto soccer fields.
The jerseys of Juventus, AC Milan, Manchester United and other European clubs are still popular with kids playing the game. But these days so too are the colours of Toronto FC, the lone Canadian team among North America's best, Major League Soccer.
"When you have a team that you support as a kid, and it's local, you can dream of one day playing for that team and that's something special," Brennan, the Toronto native who is TFC's captain, said as the team prepared for tonight's championship game in the Carolina Challenge Cup.

Gambian defender Emmanuel Gomez arrived in Toronto this week and has been working in the gym and training with the Academy Senior team as he finalizes immigration documents. Gomez will join the first team players on Monday when they return from the Carolina Cup.

It may still be preseason, but a win against Real Salt Lake on Saturday (kick off 5:00 p.m.) will give Toronto FC the first trophy of the club's history. Both teams go into the decider at the Carolina Challenge Cup with six points from the first two matches, although Real Salt Lake lead the standings with a superior goal difference.

Ashtone Morgan scored twice as TFC Senior Academy team beat Vaughan Azzuri 3-2 in a preseason game ahead of the new Canadian Soccer League season. The match begun with both teams exchanging physical challenges all over the park. Vaughan Azzuri were awarded a corner kick in the first two minutes of play and capitalized on some slack defending to punish TFC Academy and take the lead.
