Serioux quickly proves his value to Toronto FC
Daniel Girard

CHARLESTON, S.C.–Adrian Serioux is hard to miss.
In person, it's his broad smile and impressive set of dreadlocks.
On the soccer field, it's his vocal organizing of teammates, aggressive tackles and long throw-ins that cause fits for defenders inside an opponent's penalty area.
Less than a month after a trade with Dallas brought Serioux to Toronto FC, the central defender is establishing himself as one of the team's leaders.
"Since he's arrived, he's been a big influence," coach John Carver said yesterday as TFC prepared for its final pre-season tuneup tomorrow, a championship game in the Carolina Challenge Cup against Real Salt Lake. "He's a real presence in the dressing room.

Carolina One Year On

This time last year Toronto FC had traveled to the Carolina Challenge Cup with a squad that consisted of names such as Martin Brittain, Victor Pacheco and Kevin Gall. All were trialists who didn't see the light of day in a TFC shirt at BMO Field - or any other Major League Soccer stadium for that matter. Also on that club were traditional supporters' scapegoats such as Collin Samuel and Jeff Cunningham.
Going into the 2008 season the front office was also fielding calls about the lack of player acquisitions in the off season, the general direction of the squad and all other matters that lends to the anxiety of arguably North America's most passionate sports fans (although I see it more as a fact than an argument, but my bias forces me to digress).

Hey Guys,

As someone whose fairly new to posting, etc, can anyone offer some advice? I want to survey people to see if anyone would be interested in playing in a co-ed 11v11 league at the Docks this summer, and don't know how to go about it, or what protocol I need to follow. any advice would be hugely appreciated!

Cheers and let's have a great season - our first trophy is hours away!

A new article from Newcastle, based on interviews with Carver & Winsper.
It's 4 pages long, and they don't get into TFC until the second page, but it's a good read.

Former NUFC coach warns big guns to start firing

Mar 12 2009 (http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2009/03/12/) by Lee Ryder (http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/authors/lee-ryder/), Evening Chronicle

JOHN CARVER has revealed he is praying that Newcastle United avoid the little shop of horrors lying in wait in the Championship.
Like every other Geordie, Carver is deeply concerned about the plight of his former club going into the final 10 games of the season and ahead of one of the biggest games of Newcastle’s Premier League history when they go to Hull City on Saturday.

Damn good read! Interesting to see how far ahead the technology is behind the scenes. I can't believe that they wear heart rate monitors during games! Carver et al. will know exactly when to put some fresh legs in with this kind of data.

I can see the Raptors implementing and benefiting from this system as well... I'm sure MLSE has to be thinking of replicating this in other clubs in some form or another.

Damn good read!

It's great to read the following:

Now, as he heads into another big challenge at Toronto FC with former Toon fitness guru Paul Winsper at his side, Carver admits he still considers Sir Bobby, still carrying out daily work with charity despite suffering from cancer, as a footballing and life mentor.

“So it’s great to have such a strong figure like Sir Bob behind me.
“I still speak to him most days, and he says he still thinks of myself and Paul Winsper every day.”

We have Sir Bobby giving advice to Carver about TFC???
That's awesome!

The Footy show on TheScore last week did a piece on Sir Bobby. Both John Carver and Paul Winsper were interviewed and expressed admiration and awe of tyhe man.

Carver said that he talks to Sir Bobby on a regular basis and that he is going to try and remember him while standing on the sidelines as a way to keep himself from going "over the edge" and embarassing himself or the club.

James Sharman did a great job with that piece as well as a Footbal 101 lecture where he tried to explain all of the promotion/relegation and extra competition (UEFA, Champions League) concepts.

News about Gomez, just got in Toronto after "travelling for a week to get here. I started by travelling by land for eight hours to Dakar in Senegal and then flew to Accra in Ghana. I was there for five days before flying for 15 hours to Germany and then to Toronto."

Wild.

Anyways, it goes on to say he has heard about the crowd, and that he once played in front of 2,000 people ... He's not going to know what hit him when he walks out of the tunnel for our first home game!

I was surprised to read that he thought TFC was a big club :)

I guess it is all relative.

I guess it is all releative.

We're one of the best supported clubs in the league, so by that definition we could be considered big. :noidea:

i like how Sutton praises Serioux for having a great commanding presence in the back...... someone's gotta command the back line eh Greg?

i hope Serioux helps to bring out a better Sutton this season. i know many of you will read that as Sutton hate, it's not, i just think he could be better.
