New faces spell new results for TFC
Daniel Girard

CHARLESTON, S.C.–It's only two games, pre-season ones at that, but the new-look Toronto FC is giving fans a reason to believe this year could be different.
Led by off-season acquisitions Dwayne De Rosario and Pablo Vitti, TFC won 2-1 over D.C. United last night to move into position to capture the Carolina Challenge Cup.
"I think the team is coming together pretty nicely," said De Rosario, a Scarborough native and Major League Soccer star, picked up in a trade with Houston in December.

Barrett and De Ro score in win
TFC beat D.C. United 2-1 in South Carolina

Toronto FC recorded their second win at the Carolina Challenge Cup by beating D.C. United 2-1 at Blackbaud Stadium on Wednesday. Chad Barrett and Dwayne De Rosario scored first half goals for Toronto as the Reds moved onto six points in the tournament standings. TFC dominated the first half and had a number of early chances to score, including a Dwayne De Rosario shot from an Amado Guevara free kick after Chad Barrett had been hauled down on the edge of the penalty area.

TFC, RSL to clash for Carolina Cup
Clubs stay perfect in tourney, set up winner-take-all showdown

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Toronto FC and Real Salt Lake each won their second game in the Carolina Challenge Cup on Wednesday evening at Blackbaud Stadium, setting up a winner-take-all showdown for the tournament title this weekend. Chad Barrett and Dwayne De Rosario each scored in the first half to lead Toronto FC past D.C. United, 2-1, in the first game of the night, then Real Salt Lake got goals from Clint Mathis in the first half and Kyle Beckerman with 13 minutes left in regulation to beat the host Charleston Battery in the second game.

Rival coaches looking forward to test
Carver, Kreis have clubs playing well heading into Cup final

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Toronto FC coach John Carver wasn't joking when he said he wanted to win this year's Carolina Challenge Cup. Toronto FC, which went winless in the event a year ago, posted another strong performance Wednesday night in their 2-1 victory over D.C. United at Blackbaud Stadium.
Toronto FC will face unbeaten Real Salt Lake, a 2-1 winner over the USL First Division's Charleston Battery, for the tournament crown Saturday night. D.C. United will take on Charleston in a rematch of last year's U.S. Open Cup Final, in the second game of the doubleheader.

Canada eliminated from CONCACAF U-20 championship
Canadian Press

MACOYA, Trinidad — Canada has been eliminated for the CONCACAF under-20 men's soccer championships, and denied a place in the world championship, after a 2-1 loss to Costa Rica in its final round-robin game Wednesday.
A win would have advanced Canada (1-2-0) to the quarter-finals of the North American championship and assured it of a berth at the under-20 World Cup for the fifth straight time.

Am I imagining things, or does someone at TFC have a sense of humour?

This has been pretty low key:

> The Reds introduced trialist Souleymane Mamam with 14 minutes remaining.

I know he's been discussed, but some have dismissed him even being at camp. Well, he's there. Of course, DC scored after he was introduced...

Actually, DC scored 3 minutes into the 2nd half, way before the first TFC sub was made. First TFC sub was around the 73rd minute...

My bad. I misread. I thought they scored with three minutes *left* in the 2nd (didn't get to see the game). Apologies to Mamam.

Oh I'm happy that we're stomping the competition in Charleston but this may never been seen again.

I have no doubt that we will take down RSL and have our boys (both RPB and TFC) coming back with large smiles on their faces.

Looks like our boys can create and score this year but our defense looks alot like the cheese in my sandwich, swiss. Pretty much what I think we're all expecting.

First year Seattle gets an MLS cup final. Wow.

I was going to post that I think they'll draw 40K for their home opener, then I saw their opener is on a Thursday night. Not the brightest move.

Yeah there's usually a shitstorm at the slightest rumour of someone signing for us. It's awfully quiet about Mamam, who actually played for us yesterday. I'd say Mo and Carver have plans for this guy, considering we played mainly first team players and didn't take advantage of unlimited subs.....

ya, although i can't see our defense being worse than last year.
I mean, almost everyone was ready to ship Velez off to Siberia, and Julius James was shitty.
Already Serioux looks as good if not better than Marshall, and we still have Wynne and Brennan from last year.
I think Harmse could be better than Velez overall, and Nana is already better than James.

So I don't think the defense is going to be worse than last year. the newfound offense should take some pressure off them too.

if we were almost in the playoffs last year, can't see us not being in the same position -- or hopefully much better -- this year.

4-1 win for TFC reserves today, good game with Dichio scoring 2, Smith and Velez with a goal each. They played the SC cougars with some help from them filling out our lineup.

Sorry scooter, should've been more clear, the SSG Coed combination will likely never be seen again. Wasn't refering to TFC. TFC are going to destroy this season. There will be alot more W's this season which is why I was giving the SSG so much attention.
