...with a 1-0 win in Honduras.

Two USL teams through to the CCL semis.

That's it. Hell has frozen over.

Velez leaves Puerto Rico, they make it to the semis. Velez comes to Toronto, we don't make it past preliminary rounds....hmmmm.

The crowd got violent too near the end. They were throwing things down at the sidelines and two of the assistants got into it on the sidelines, got ejected then the Marathon assistant kicked the P.R assistant.

aside from the shitty behavior That was a really good game!

Saw that....Marathon did all the creating but PR pulled it out. I really think the Central American countries have a tough time dealing with large athletic soccer players. They were quite clearly more skilled and were way too respectful in defense. If they just pressed them they would have beat PR.

QFT, the Hondurans were the technically better side by far; better movement, passing, etc. But they were absolutely physically dominated. I don't think they won a 50-50 ball all game.

Bigger, Stronger and Faster... That is what wins games in my opinion..

I thought Santos played with more skill and creativity than Montreal too, yet Santos failed to make anything happen (Duane Rollins considers this on his blog today).

An all USL final would be hilarious.

its too bad more of the MLS teams didnt take this tourney more seriously last year, but maybe seeing a couple of north american teams from another league have success opens there eyes a little bit

it's hard tho.. under the MLS roster restrictions, do you go for the league and playoffs, or the champions league?

If you play your regular starting 11 for every single game of the season, (that would be taking everything seriously) then you risk burnout. that's gotta be something like 47 games total just to get to the MLS Cup and semis of the Champions League.
If you're in Super Liga, that's potentially another 6 games.

Can MLS teams really play 53 games in a season under current conditions? And there's hardly any financial reward for Champions league.

So letsay you "play the kids" to try to manage the workload... some would say that's not taking it seriously, but I think that's probbably just being smart. Right now the league means more.

I can't understand why clubs would not see this as a serious tournament.
Being the champion of your region means good things to the club, prestige , honor and a ton load of cash.. I guess the only question i wonder is if an mls team was to win the whole fifa club world cup does the prize money have to be split amongst all clubs in the league..

this was taken from the wiki page about the club world club..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_Club_World_Cup

The 2009 and 2010 events will be hosted by the United Arab Emirates (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Arab_Emirates), with the 2011 and 2012 competitions returning to Japan.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_Club_World_Cup#cite_note-0)
In February 2008, FIFA introduced a Club World Champion Badge of Honour, featuring an image of the trophy, which the reigning champion is entitled to display on its kit until the final of the next championship. Initially, all four previous champions were allowed to wear the badge until the 2008 final (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_FIFA_Club_World_Cup_Final)[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_Club_World_Cup#cite_note-1), where Manchester United (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchester_United) gained the sole right to wear the badge by winning the trophy.
The fifth-place match, dropped in 2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_FIFA_Club_World_Cup), was reintroduced for the 2008 competition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_FIFA_Club_World_Cup). The reintroduction of the match for fifth place also prompted an increase in prize money by US$ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_dollar)500,000 to a total of US$16.5 million. The winners took away $5 million, second-placed team received $4 million, the third-placed team $2.5 million, the fourth-placed team $2 million, the fifth-placed team $1.5 million, the sixth-placed team $1 million and the seventh-placed team received $500,000.[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_Club_World_Cup#cite_note-2008Changes-2)

CONCACAF champion could take out Oceania, Asia and Africa's champions not easily but reasonably. 3rd or 4th gets you over $2 mill..... not bad.

Any club that doesn't take this competition seriously does so at their own peril.

Wolfman, I was born and rasied in Africa, but I see no reason why a top MLS or Mexican League team couldn't take out the African or Asian champ. It's hardly ridiculous.

we see it everyday small clubs take out their bigger cousins.. Are we not seeing that in the concacaf this year.. I have seen it in south america aswell . Its not about what players or how good the club is . its about the desire and the drive and team chemistry . Big clubs have a tendency to feel assured that its all in the bag ..
