Just wanted to get a feel for how many fans and supporters will travel to the MLS Cup final to watch our Red's HOIST the trophy this year!?

I personally think we could get around 10,000 people to the final

your thoughts?

I think 10000 is a bit of a stretch.....but it would be interesting...I for one would be there!

I'd go & would go no matter where it was in North America...

What I couldn't do is go to the semi-final, and then MLS Cup a week later... So, when TFC advances to the semi's I'll be at home, praying for the win, so I have the $$$ to make it to the cup final...

The Red Bulls are pushing pretty hard to get it. But it depends on when Red Bulls Arena will be completed.

I'd like to but there are too many variables to say right now, employment, value of the dollar, location, cost of flight, etc.

If it was out in Seattle, probably not since I'll be going out there 3 months later for the Olympics

Being that there are not 10,000 people on this site, I don't know how you thought you would get a realistic number?
Based on the thread, I'd say you can confirm 8 people. So my vote goes for 8-10 people.

I think if the game is within 10hrs drive, then easily 8,000 or more.

If it's on the west coast... probably less.

Location matters, but also timing. The Columbus invasion took a couple of months to build up, and that got 2500 or so.

If we make the final, there will be 1 or two weeks notice. That simply isn't enough time for it to break out amongst the non hardcore supporters I think. 1000 would be impressive.

10,000 fans?????????????? you guys are dreaming.

location has a huge factor, if its all the way on the west coast in LA or Dallas ect. then you would be lucky to get 1,000 TFC fans there. Short notice to book it, plus it cost alot of money for many people, those arent cheap trips. Now if it was say in Columbus or chicago then ya id say we could get +5,000.

Speaking for myself, I would risk my job to go. Even if it was the furthest and most expensive from Toronto as you can get. I would not miss it for anything.
Unfortunately our NA playoff system doesn't allow for time for people to plan these things out well ahead of time.

My guesstimates for the numbers that would go in October '09:
-Final in New York, Chicago, Columbus, DC or Boston: 5000-10000
-Kansas City, Texas, Colorado, Salt Lake: 2000-4000
-LA, San Jose or Seattle: 3000-5000 (Farther but have more travel appeal and flight deals than the midwest/texas)

James Oliphant
03-03-2009, 06:45 AM
A lot of you guys are assuming we'd be able to get 10,000 tickets, which would be a minor miracle, since they'll have been on sale all year...

Mark in Ottawa
03-03-2009, 07:40 AM
A lot would depend upon the organization of any road trip.
Obviously a large number of RPB's would travel as we have such a good "road trip crew" to organize tickets together, travel arrangements and on-site activities.

Would TFC try to arrange something for the STH's ??
I would think so.

Isn't it normally a huge "faux pas" to make any comment regarding a teams place in the standings at the end of the year before the season has even started? I remember Daniel Alfredsson did that once with the Sens, it didn't go down to well with the fans. Not to mention the ridicule he faced after not being able to come through on his word. Being as superstitious as I am I'm convinced you've just hexed us for the entire season. But to each his own I guess.

Venues/winners and attendance since 2000

I could see it possibly being at Home Depot Center again, RFK, Seattle or Gillette Stadium...

Cuz
03-03-2009, 08:50 AM
You have taken my comments out of context. This has nothing to do with how well we play. Like I said in my post. I'm superstitious, like many professional athletes. How do you think the team would respond if someone said we are gonna be in the MLS Cup Final this year? Do you think they would be happy to hear those types of predictions? Do you think they would like to have the added weight of someone's comments about them winning a cup on their shoulders as well? NO! they wouldn't like that one bit. I'm sure they would appreciate the fact that people think they are good enough to get there. But again, superstitious players don't like that sort of thing. Neither do superstitious fans.

Exactly. If it's in Seattle, I can see them holding back a bunch of tickets for supporters of the teams involved, but at any of the SSS in the league, do you really think we can get 10,000 tickets? or even 5,000? 2,000?

Alot of rather big europe clubs cant even get over 3,000 fans for UEFA or Champions League matches and it cost quite a bit less to fly within Europe as it does for us to fly to the west coast. These predictions for us are just crazy!

i would try to go, depending how much money i got and all. But your only getting answers from the more die hard supporters, and there is maybe 2,000 of them tops. The average TFC fan wouldnt take a plane flight to a match in Seattle!

Try this place: Novajet they service YYZ(pearson international) Ask for the long range jet which should be able to service YYZ-SEA(Seattle) I think it holds 12 or so people...
