Bob Young Seeks USL Soccer Team for Hamilton.

Hamilton, Ontario - Bob Young, owner of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, announced today that the team has begun the process of applying for a United Soccer League (USL) franchise for the city of Hamilton, contingent on the construction of a new stadium in Hamilton.
Young remarked, "As a minority owner of the USL's Carolina Railhawks, I'm personally aware of the growing popularity of USL soccer across North America and would be thrilled to see a Hamilton team play in a league with the great Montreal Impact and Vancouver Whitecaps franchises."

"We have been investigating the economic viability of a professional soccer team in Hamilton for a number of years and with the possibility of a new stadium on the horizon, we felt that this is the right time to begin the application process.

Bob Young to Seek USL Soccer Franchise for Hamilton.

Great news for soccer fans in Hamilton.

The other day I mused for a moment about how cool it would be to have an MLS team here. Well, Bob Young is making the first move towards possibly seeing that happen by applying for a USL team for Hamilton, "contingent on the construction of a new stadium".

The USL is for all intents and purposes the league below the MLS. Vancouver and Montreal both have tams in the USL and are both hoping to join the MLS during one of the next rounds of MLS expansion.

Last year, Toronto FC played both Montreal and Vancouver to determine the Canadian rep in an international tournament. Let's just say that TFC didn't make it.

The fact is, with a new stadium in Hamilton the potential exists for this sort of expansion of our teams and membership into other international leagues.
