As stated in the other thread, It's gotta be Serioux .. they both played in Millwall, Serioux is in Florida with FCD as well, we've had rumors about him already, and we _need_ a defender .. I'd be surprised if it's not him. I guess we can forgive him for last year? .. hehe

I am a little concerned with the mentality of a guy who would do something as stupid as he did to Beckham. However, everyone is allowed to make a mistake in judgement and as long as he learned from it and would not try to pull anything like that again that is fine.
I do believe he could really strengthen our team so I would be willing to forgive and forget.

But I mean - to hit a guy with a red card worthy tackle, then stand up and say "Welcome to MLS" - that's just completely unsportsmanlike and cold.

And then of course, there was the incident where he gave the NEE the finger, when Dallas played here.

I will forgive and support if he's on his way here, but I gotta say - I kind of hope we find someone better.

The article I read after he did it, I believe said, that is what he told Beckham, but maybe they were just trying to create a stir.

He has one red card and 8 yellow cards in his career in MLS....I don't think he is a dirty player. I wouldn't judge him by one or two things that has happened.

Serioux giving the NEE the finger was fucking stupid. Who does that to the fans at their home town club? I know he got expansion drafted and then traded, but come on dude.

I hope we sign someone better. He played RB for Dallas, so making him the main CB for us (assuming we don't sign anyone else as well) doesn't exactly fill me with glee. Plus he's also a DCM, so definitely not a CB specialist. Versatility is good, but not when it comes to the guy leading your backline - you want him purely as a CB, born and bred.

I'll support him of course, and I like the fact he's Canadian, but he won't get the kind of fan loyalty from me that De Ro automatically will, for example.

The same home town fans that were jeering him all game, and threw the ball at him after it went out of bounds, which sparked the retaliation by Serioux.

He played CB for Canada, that's more than enough experience back there for me.

I was in 127 when he gave the gesture and I actually thought it was pretty funny. The way people were giving him the business, why shouldn't he be able to express himself too? Sure, I suppose he's supposed to be above all that, but whatever. It was a memorable moment. :)

positive things about serioux:

his throw in can almost match a hard cross/free kick (probably one of the best i have ever seen)

he has calmed down a lot in the last year - being selected to the cmnt more frequently. he still very hard nosed but chooses more wisely as to who and when to tackle aggressively.

he plays as a defender very well - i would rank him in the top 10 in mls.

he's canadian - because of this, he is worth less to other teams...

Serioux is as team as it gets. I sat next to his brother on the plane to Montreal for WCQ. His brother said he called him and was like "Why would you do that?!" well apparently golden boy becks isnt the angel he appears to be in front of the press.

During matches Adrian told his brother that golden becks would tell everyone just how shite they were and that he owned every stadium in the league. Hmmm I guess he is right, after winning MVP and leading his team to the Superliga and MLS Cup...... oh wait.

Not doubting that is what he told you but I would take those comments with a pinch of salt. Could be true what Serioux said or could just be his way of trying to make it look like his actions were justifiable, could also be the brother trying to protect him, I guess we will never know. I am pretty sure that trash talk between players takes place all the time but that should never be reason enough to make a tackle of that nature.

He's great for MLS, but me and a few others are going after him. He's made us feel unappreciated... There'll be no line to cross with him, I don't have a line. No offense, but that sounds like a pile of sh*te. I've watched a few MLS matches involving him, I've yet to see any evidence of Becks spending an inordinate amount of time walking around mouthing off. If Serioux is upset about being made to feel inferior to Beckham, he has to understand that some players are better than others. David Beckham is a far better player than Serioux. It obviously follows that he'll be getting paid more money.

Combine this with giving U-Sec the finger for treating him like an opposing player (DeRo never got a hero's welcome when he was with Houston, either) and the guy just sounds like a bitter sore loser who can't handle his temper.

I'm doubting it. Beckham has never been known to be a locker room cancer. He's never been known to talk shit about opposing teams, etc. Serioux has been known to be a brute, short tempered and generally anything but classy.

Serioux obviously has a hate on for Beckham and anything he says about Becks is probably quite skewed by his own judgement.

I was actually going to ask the same thing, i don't see any part of that quote that is wrong.

Any player especially a defender should take battles personal thats what your taught when coming up playing the game and you take your one of one battles even more personal coz if all or most of you teammates win their one on one battles there is a very good chance you win the match.

I think way too many people put Becks on some kinda pedalsteel, forget all that.

I agree with BB's comment on this - gotta win your battles and take them all seriously, but you also have to take them profesisonally, and IF that quote is accurate, then Serioux had pre-meditated in his mind that he was going to hit DB as hard as he could for non-football rleated reasons. That's what Keane did to Haaland and there is NO place for it in the game, professional or amateur. I'm not saying the Serioux tackle was anywhere near as bas as the Keane on haaland effort, I'm just comparing the mentality.

Play hard, play professionally, keep your head in the game. Pre-meditated personal (non-football related) vendettas can fuck right off. That's my problem with the quote.

I hear you bro.

In all honesty before Amado came to TFC all i heard about him was how bad of an attitude he has and how negative he was even though he was a good player then after meeting him and getting to know him a bit and hearing things about him he has one of the best attitudes on the team.

I personally don't take on too much of what the press puts out and allow it to influence me coz i have seen things written or things said about SWP, Rohan and many more friends or family members that i knew were not true lol but it sells.

I guess none of you pups have heard of Nobby Stiles and hard nosed Football of the sixties, Georgie Best would come off the pitch with blackened ankles because of the proper football that was being played back then, If you are a good player you become a target to be roughed up. All of the leagues around the world play like that.
This isn't Fifa 09 on the 360 or PS3, It's the real thing.

I hope Seriuox comes to play at TFC, you guys don't seem to cry about D.D. whom rides the line finely doesn't he, and I am a big D.D. fan.

lol the funny thing is i don't really expect to hear this kinda stuff from a lot of the fans over here considering Hockey is most likely another sport you love if not most loving it more than Football and from what i know the enforcer is usually not the most talented player but has a job to be the touch guy.

I do agree though coz when i play i always preach the same thing (go in hard but don't intentially go out to break someones legs) but i dunno if Adrian was tryna break legs.

Beyond that, there's just a lot of liberal misinterpretation due to sheer arrogance. IF you look at the various arguments Guevara has had over the years that have led to him being labelled a 'hothead' most of them were issues of principle for him, not arrogant petulance. The guy's deeply religious and intense, and the press reads intense as "dickheaded."

an ives quote from yesterdays game...

yeah :)

I like the thought of Ricketts and DeRo swapping sides many times during a game. It seems like Ricketts did well with either last year, and doing this might play hell with the opposition's game plan (if they plan on shutting DeRo down).

Enforcers are there to make sure people don't go after star players. DD doesn't go after star players, either. Going out with the intent of injuring a player because you're angry that he's better than you, as Serioux stated, is just dumb in my opinion.

Nice to see DD doing what he does, couple nice goals and plenty of good short distribution to strike partners with his feet and head.

Funny thing is, this is how I've said Danny should be used all along. He shouldn't be near the half way line unless the ball is deep in our own end. He should be IMO pressing the last line of defense. Looking for a header coming across the penalty spot is where he's most effective in my eyes.

DD goes in hard with any other player that has the ball, he does not hold back coz its a "star player" and this is Football so i for sure don't expect my defenders to hold back.

Like it was said before, if your very skillfull or a so called star player you are a bigger target and that skillfull or star player knows that.

Every team knows if they can shut down or get that particular player off their game their chances of winning increases.

I think its a done deal that the person DD was talking about was Adrian.

That works when we don't need help defending! That being said, I know people are in a state of concern waiting for a new CB, but I believe our def is already improved in that an increased offensive threat will make teams less likely to swarm forward with abandon against us.
